October 2020 Community Conversation Presentations

  • In October 2020, the Ladue School District hosted several opportunities for our community to hear and view virtual presentations about the projects included in Proposition L. These presentations took place during the time the community survey was in progress and before the Board of Education making the decision to place Prop L on the April 6, 2021, ballot.

These presentations are available to view here and are divided into sections, so you can select the portions that interest you most.

Introduction: (9:06) Superintendent Dr. Jim Wipke shares why the district is pursuing improvements at the four K-4 elementary schools and how these projects have been approached. Dr. Wipke also provides an overview of the less extensive improvements needed at Conway and Reed Elementary Schools.

The Process for Identifying Potential Solutions: (4:51) Perkins and Will is one of the architectural firms hired by the district to assist in finding design solutions to the issues identified at Old Bonhomme Elementary, Spoede Elementary and Ladue Middle School. In this section, Steve Turckes of Perkins and Will explains how this process began by gathering together those who use these buildings the most.

Design Concepts: In the next three sections, the architects walk you through the three most extensive projects and the designs that have been developed to address space, safety, and sustainability issues in each of these schools.

Project Costs: (4:58) Dr. Wipke wraps up the presentation by reviewing the estimated costs of these projects, how moving forward with some or all of them could impact taxpayers and what the next steps will be in the decision-making process.

Please Note: These presentations were followed by breakout sessions in which participants had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. The most frequently asked questions from these discussions are posted in the Frequently Asked Questions section of this website.
