Three High School Publications Named Top 10 in the Nation

LHWHS received plenty of accolades at the National Scholastic Press Association and Journalism Education Association’s annual fall convention, held Nov. 2-5 in Boston.

All three of the school’s print publications placed in the top 10 in the nation in their respective categories.

Panorama, the LHWHS newsmagazine, was named Best in Show for the first time.

Melodrama, the school’s literary magazine, placed 5th while the Rambler yearbook placed 7th.

Several students were recognized for their individual work, including:

  • Olivia Chen (12) earned 5th place in the National Artist of the Year competition
  • Rory Lustberg (12) earned an Honorable Mention in the National Writer of the Year competition
  • Vincent Hsiao (10) earned an Honorable Mention in the National Photographer of the Year competition
  • Annie Zhao (12) placed 3rd in Literary Magazine Design with Weather Like Feelings
  • Arti Jain (11) and Rory Lustberg placed 4th in News Story of the Year with “Under Fire
  • Allen You (Class of 2023) placed 4th in Feature Story of the Year with “Torn from Home”
  • Olivia Hu and Erica Shi (both Class of 2023) earned an Honorable Mention in Newsmagazine Cover Design with “The Teen Issue"

Several students also won awards at their on-site National Student Media contests:

  • Emily Liu (11) earned the highest ranking of Superior for Infographic Design. 
  • Vincent Hsiao earned the second-highest ranking of Excellent for Portrait Photography
  • Josh Devine (10) earned the second-highest ranking of Excellent for News Writing
  • Katie Myckatyn (11) earned an Honorable Mention in Feature Writing
  • Madeline Awad (10) earned an Honorable Mention in Yearbook Story and Caption Writing
