Reed Elementary Named National Blue Ribbon School

Reed Elementary School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2023 by the U.S. Department of Education.

“We were just thrilled when we heard the announcement that Reed was among the schools recognized today,” said Dr. Chris Schreiner, principal of Reed Elementary. “I am very proud and fortunate to work with such amazing students, teachers, and parents— this recognition is truly a result of a beautiful partnership.”

Reed is one of 353 schools nationwide to earn the honor and one of only eight in Missouri. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups on assessments.

“The learning environment at Reed is truly remarkable,” said Ladue Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim Wipke. “The school has built a reputation of connecting with its community while incorporating numerous supports to meet all students’ academic and social-emotional needs. I congratulate Reed Principal Dr. Chris Schreiner and all the students, teachers, staff, and families for contributing to this well-deserved award.”

This is the first time Reed Elementary has earned National Blue Ribbon recognition. The school’s previous honors include being named a National School of Character in 2023 and 2018, a 2014 Missouri Exemplary Professional Learning Communities School, and a 2004-05 Missouri Gold Star School.

National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective and innovative school practices for state and district educators and other schools nationwide. A National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing a school’s entryway or on a flagpole is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning. National Blue Ribbon School leaders articulate a vision of excellence and hold everyone to high standards. They demonstrate effective and innovative teaching and learning, and the schools value and support teachers and staff through meaningful professional learning. Data from many sources drive instruction, and every student strives for success. Families, communities, and educators work together toward common goals.
