Idea Lab Robotics Teams Compete at Old Bonhomme

Nine fourth-grade teams from the district's four elementary schools participated in the FIRST LEGO League Competition at Old Bonhomme Elementary on Dec. 9.

The competition was organized by elementary gifted specialists Tammy MacLean, Lindsay Lombardo, Lisa Schreiner, and Beth Knoot.

Students were tasked with researching and creating solutions to a real-world global problem related to the Arts and Technology.

They also were required to code and program Spike Prime robots, provided by the Ladue Education Foundation, to solve complicated missions related to their topic.

Throughout the learning process, the most important aspect of FIRST LEGO League is to implement the Core Values of respectful interaction, shared experience, and critical thinking; these Core Values include Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Teamwork, and Fun.

All teams demonstrated innovation and creativity. Two teams won an Innovation Project Award, one team received an Honorable Mention for its Innovation Project, and two teams won a Core Values Award.

Additionally, one team earned the Robot Game Award for the highest score on the Mission Table.

LHWHS students and teachers from across the district volunteered as judges.

The competition was a fun learning experience for everyone involved!
