English Speakers of Other Languages Program

  • The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program of the Ladue School District is responsible for guiding the development of the ESOL program and following the protocol of Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and WIDA Consortium. Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) supports ESOL educators in focusing on the health and well-being of the students; provides innovative ways to continue teaching and learning; provides normalcy as much as possible for students, faculty, and staff.  Dr. Diana Hsu provides leadership for the ESOL Team as the district’s ESOL Coordinator.

Mission

  • Our mission is to develop English fluency, academic success, and cultural awareness in English Language Learners through:

    • Providing inclusive and equitable access to learning
    • Teaching English in the four domains (speaking, listening, reading, and writing), providing support, and working cooperatively with classroom teachers.
    • Fostering the maintenance of home language while learning English.
    • Helping students balance learning new cultural norms without losing their own unique cultural identity.

  • WIDA

    Missouri is a member of the WIDA consortium in partnership with 40 additional states, territories, and federal agencies in the United State and approximately 500 international schools throughout the world. WIDA provides partner schools and districts with guidance on best practices for educating English Language Learners.  This includes English proficiency screeners, growth assessments, and Standards.
